Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of ensuring the stability at starting up the discharge lamp without increasing the capacitance of a power supply capacitor of a switching element at the high side, and a luminaire using the same.SOLUTION: The discharge lamp lighting device includes: a first drive power supply (control power circuit 14) that outputs control voltage E1; a second drive power supply that outputs a voltage higher than a voltage output from the first drive power supply; a power supply capacitor that supplies an operating voltage to a drive circuit at the high side; and a changeover circuit 15 that switches between a first path for charging the power supply capacitor using the first drive power supply and a second path for charging the power supply capacitor using the second drive power supply. The changeover circuit 15 switches to the second path when starting a discharge lamp 3.
