Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to improve the exactness and reliability of servo control by making the first time period for enabling disk operation shorter than a second time period and causing the power down of first and second sub-sets having the first and second time intervals when the first and second time intervals elapse.
SOLUTION: In a first mode of electric power saving, only the spin motor assembly including a spin motor circuit 140 and a spin sequencer 142, a disk controller 181 and an intelligent interface controller 180 receive the electric power. The remaining circuits are subjected to power down. When a microprocessor 14 attains the first mode, there is no electric power consumption within the microprocessor 144. In a second mode, the power down is executed by shutting off all the electronic circuits exclusive of the disk controller 181 and the disk drive intelligent interface controller 180.
