A display control circuit 11 includes a light source drive unit 5 keeping the total sum of light source current approximately constant over cycles when an opening and closing period of liquid crystal shutters is taken as one cycle. The light source drive unit 5 increases the light source current supplied to a light source emitting light transmitted through a light modulation device and projected on a screen in the period during which any of the liquid crystal shutters is opened, and reduces the light source current in the period during which both liquid crystal shutters are closed. The display control circuit 11 also includes a control unit 2 controlling the timing of opening and closing the liquid crystal shutters with respect to a shutter glass drive unit 3, controlling the timing of writing a left image and a right image with respect to a panel drive unit 7 and controlling the luminance level of the light source in the opening and closing period of the liquid crystal shutters with respect to the light source drive unit 5.
