To faithfully display an image showing a designated position in a display surface.

In this display device, when a position t3 is continuously designated on a display surface, the position is detected at every determined period to display an image showing a locus sequentially connecting the positions. Then, the display device specifies the direction of the locus in the respective positions when points Pt81, Pt82, ... are sequentially detected. The display device shortens the period of position detection to detect Pt86, Pt87, ... when a point Pt85 is detected and a change amount in the direction of the locus increases. The display device lengthens the period of position detection to detect the positions Pt90 and Pt91 when a point Pt89 is detected and a change amount in the direction of the locus decreases. Thus, as to a change amount in the direction of a locus, the frequency of position detection is lowered to suppress the power consumption so that the image showing a locus is faithfully displayed.
