A display device 100 comprises at least a display unit 14 that indicates the running speed of a vehicle and a control unit 11 that controls the updating intervals of the running speed indicated on the display unit 14, wherein the control unit 11 is provided with a speed data generating unit 10 that samples speed information detected from the vehicle in constant sampling periods and generates speed data, an accelerated/decelerated speed calculating unit 12 that separately calculates accelerated and decelerated speeds on the basis of the speed data, and a display control unit 13 that increases the number of divisions of the sampling period as the acceleration and the deceleration increase, generates interpolation data for interpolation into the sets of speed data in each of the periods determined by this number of divisions and causes the display unit 14 to indicate the running speed at the timing of generation of the speed data and the interpolation data.
