A display device includes: a display part having plural pixels and displaying an image based on an input signal that is a signal for stereoscopic display, the signal containing, for example, information of a parallax amount; a level calculation part for calculating at least an average signal level of pixels in a predetermined zone around an interested pixel; a γ correction part for applying a γ correction to the input signal so that inclination of a γ characteristic of the interested pixel decreases as a distance from the average signal level increases; and a gain control part for gain-controlling a correction amount of the γ correction performed by the γ correction part in accordance with the parallax amount.
