PURPOSE: To obtain an erased surface not leaving the mark of a previously displayed character or line image on the display surface of a magnetic microcapsule sheet coated with a magnetic microcapsule having a magnetic powder sealed therein.

CONSTITUTION: A vertical magnetic field is applied to a magnetic microcapsule sheet by a strip like magnet 2 to make the color of the entire display surface of the magnetic microcapsule sheet 13 same to that of a character or line image and, thereafter, erasing magnets 4, 6 are arranged to a feed passage side in order to apply an erasing horizontal magnetic field to the magnetic microcapsule sheet 13. By this constitution, the number of the erasing magnets can be reduced and the feed passage of an erasing process can be shortened.
