Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new distilbene compound having an excellent characteristic as an organic material for an electrophotographic photosensitive substance.
SOLUTION: This compound is shown by formula I [Ar1 is a (substituted) methylene or (substituted) 6-20C arylenet Ar2 is a (substituted) 6-20C arylene, and Ar3 and Ar4 are each a halogen-containing 6-20C aryl or alkyl], e.g. a compound of formula II. A compound of formula I, e.g. a compound of formula II is obtained by: dissolving an aldehyde of formula III and phosphonate of formula IV in 1,3-dioxolane and cooling it; adding t-butoxy potassium thereto in driblets under mixing; pouring the reacted liquid into an ice water and mixing it; extracting it by ethyl acetate and washing the extract liquid; adding anhydrous sodium sulfate thereto and mixing it; removing sodium sulfate by filtration; and removing ethyl acetate by decompression distillation and subjecting the resultant product to recrystallization.
