PURPOSE: To provide a distribution type fuel injection pump which rapid stops an engine when fuel feeding is stopped by a fuel cutoff valve.

CONSTITUTION: On the way of a spill passage system communicated with a low pressure fuel chamber 6 from a pressure-feeding pump chamber 14 via a spill port 22, a check valve 70 is equipped, which allows relief of fuel from the pressure-feeding pump chamber 14 toward the low pressure fuel chamber 6 and shuts off back flow of the fuel from the low pressure fuel chamber 6 to the pressure-feeding pump chamber 14 via the spill port 22. With this constitution, when fuel feeding is stopped by a fuel cutoff valve 60, back flow of the fuel from the low pressure fuel chamber 6 to the pressure-feeding pump chamber 14 via the spill port 22 is interrupted, fuel feeding to the pressure-feeding pump chamber 14 is surely prevented, and an engine can be rapidly stopped.
