Abstract:

To provide a drill head equipped with strong, durable support pads to be used when drilling heatproof materials.

A drill head 1 is equipped with more-than-one support pads 2, 3, at least one of which is made from ceramic materials. The ceramic materials are essentially ceramic oxides, or ceramic oxides containing hard carbides, and/or ceramic nitrides, and/or ceramic borides, and/or ceramic connectors, and/or ordinary presses, and/or sintering auxiliaries. These support pads are particularly useful in boring such heatproof materials as INCONEL (R) 718, INCONEL (R) 939, WASPALOY, and UDIMET (R) 720.
