Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a handrail drive for a movable handrail which lessens scuffing of a surface of the handrail.
CONSTITUTION: A moving handrail on an escalator is driven by a pair of rollers 8 and 10 through a middle portion of which the handrail 18 moves. The rollers are eccentrically mounted so as to automatically tighten a nip of the rollers 8 and 10 in response to resistance to movement of the handrail 18. The roller 8 which contacts the inside of the handrail 18 is rotably driven by power sprockets 20, 21 and 22, while the roller 10 contacting the outside of the handrail 18 is an idler roller which is not rotated by the power sprockets 20, 21 and 22 so as to lessen scuffing of the surface of the handrail 18 by the roller.
