PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive method which sets a screen into display conditions and nondisplay conditions which using a fixed power source without changing duty.
SOLUTION: In the driving method for a display device provided with plural display elements (liquid crystals), a drive circuit for scanning lines and a drive circuit for data lines, the voltage level of the scanning lines during a nonselecting condition is only one. Display control signals are inputted to the drive circuit for the scanning lines, and an area served by continuous K pieces of lines from among N pieces lines (where K is an integer which is smaller than N and larger than ≥2) is defined as an area of nondisplay conditions and an area served by other scanning lines is defined as an image displaying area. No selection voltage is applied to the K pieces of scanning lines, and the lines are held at a nonselecting voltage level. During the period when the K pieces of scanning lines are originally selected, the voltages to be applied for display is applied to the data lines. Since no duty is changed as compared to a full display, variable power source is dispensed with.
