To provide a driving roll which can run out a rope via a guide roll even when a lubricant is attached to the rope manufactured by twisting cords made of cotton, hemp or chemical fiber yarn.

In a stretching means B1, the rope 3 is pressed between a pressure roll 2 and the driving roll 1 and is then run out by the rotation of the driving roll 1 so as to stretch the rope 3 on the opposite side of the running out direction. The driving roll 1 is provided with a blade edge 21 which engages with a depressed portion 22 of the rope 3 just before it is pressed. The blade edge 21 depresses the downside slope of the depressed portion 22 at the moment when the blade edge 21 comes into contact with the rope 33, and the rope 3 is thereby paid out via the guide roll.
