To notify an operator of necessary information by quickly and accurately recognizing the indicator of a character string by a simply and inexpensively configured device.
An operation support device 10 images the front part of a vehicle by a camera 40 to acquire an image 100, and extracts a region image 72 including the character string 70 from the pickup image 100, and recognizes one character 76 which is the closest to the vehicle from the region image 72, and compares a template 80a showing a preregistered character with image data 102 of one character 76 to judge whether or not they are matched by template matching, and when the comparison result is positive, and conditions based on the speed, brake operation and accelerating operation are established, the operation support device 10 calls a driver's attention.
