PURPOSE: To monitor a size of a droplet at the tip of a nozzle of a spot-adapting device.
CONSTITUTION: Light is projected from a side to the tip of a nozzle 3 of a spot-adapting device with a droplet 4 to be spot-adapted formed, a field of view 6a of a constant size including an entire part of the droplet 4 formed lower than the tip end of the nozzle is limited, and light in this field of view is received by a light receiving element 8. An output of the light receiving element 8 is compared with a threshold value by a CPU 10, and a size of the droplet 4 is compared with a reference size. When the output of the light receiving element 8 is larger than the threshold value stored in the CPU 10 as a result of comparison, the CPU 10 issues an alarm signal.
