PURPOSE: To provide a sponge made of devil's tongue, which has a high bulk density, is to be easy to carry and sell, and is extremely easily made to contain water.

CONSTITUTION: A dry devil's tongue sponge 20 is produced by freezing a devil's tongue, thawing, dewatering, compressing and drying the devil's tongue so that the volume of the devil's tongue is decreased. Before compressed and dried, the devil's tongue is impregnated with, preferably, propylene glycol, glycerol, sorbitol, mannitol, maltitol, xylitol, glucose, galactose, xylose, saccharose, maltose, lactose or the like. Of these, those which have a glycerol content of 10∼200% by weight are more preferred.
