Title:
REFRACTORY MATERIAL FOR ALUMINUM-LITHIUM ALLOY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3197781
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the resistance to thermal shock without deteriorating corrosion resistance and to prevent the intrusion of molten metal from a crack even when used in a large-sized melting furnace by forming the refractory material with spinel, boric anhydride and the balance alumina.
CONSTITUTION: This composite refractory material contains, for example, 62-82wt.% Al2O3 and 18-38wt.% MgO. The spinel as a refractory chemically stable to lithium and having ≤0.3mm grain size by 5-20wt.%, 0.5-5wt.% boric anhydride functioning as a binder for firmly curing the refractory, protecting the refractory by the reaction with lithium to elute the product such as SLi2O-B2 O3 and suppressing the erosion with molten alloy and having ≤0.3mm grain size and the balance alumina are mixed and bound together at the boundary consisting essentially of spinel. The material is placed in a mold, stamped, formed and heated at about 300°C for about 6hr to obtain the refractory material.
