To provide a dust collector and a method for collecting dust capable of efficiently removing dust and mist contained in a gas.
The dust collector 1 includes: a preliminary charge part 2 and a wet electrostatic filter 3 in a circulation passage, in which a gas containing dust and mist including SOx is circulated, in this order from the upstream side. The wet electrostatic filter 3 includes a water-mist spray device 22 provided to a gas inlet, and a collection part 24 provided downstream of the water-mist spray device 22. The collection part 24 includes a discharge electrode 25, an earth electrode 28, and a filter layer 26 between the electrode 25 and the earth electrode 28. Dust in the gas is charged in the preliminary charge part 2 and water-mist is sprayed in the gas flown in the wet electrostatic filter 3. An electric field is generated between the discharge electrode 25 and the earth electrode 28 so that dielectric polarization may occur in the water-mist, and when the gas is passed through the filter layer 26, dust and mist including SOx are collected together with the water-mist by the filter layer 26.
