To provide a dye-sensitized solar cell electrolyte that has gelatinous or solid form, has such light fastness that the electrolyte is not decomposed even exposed to sunlight including ultraviolet rays, and can contain iodine that is a redox chemical species at a high concentration.
A dye-sensitized solar cell includes a gelatinous or solid electrolyte containing a polymer component that is a fluorinated resin containing at least one polar group selected from a sulfo group, a carboxyl group and a phosphoryl group. The dye-sensitized solar cell contains iodine that is a redox chemical species with an iodine-to-polymer-component weight ratio of 0.001/1 to 2/1, with respect to the polymer component. The dye-sensitized solar cell contains iodide that is a redox chemical species with an iodine-to-iodide weight ratio of 1/5 to 1/8, with respect to the polymer.
