Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a method for obtaining eicosapentaenoic acid or its lower alkyl ester of high purity from natural fat and oil containing 2 or more kinds of high saturated fatty acids such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and the like.
CONSTITUTION: In the isolation and purification of EPA or its lower alkyl ester from natural, fat and oil containing more than 2 kinds of high saturated fatty acids such as EPA, DHA and the like, EPA or its lower alkyl ester is partially purified by the vacuum rectification refinement, then treated in aqueous silver nitrate to recover EPA or its ester of high purity as a water-soluble component.
