Abstract:
The electric lamp includes a tubular close-loop electrodeless lamp envelope which contains mercury vapour and a buffer gas. The lamp envelope has a pair of dimples (114,116) on the inside surface. A flag assembly (110) is located within the lamp envelope which has a support wire (120) with opposite ends secured to the dimples and a starting flag (122) attached to the support wire. The starting flag contains a mercury absorbing material. The dimples have either an outwardly or inwardly extending convex structure and the ends of the support wire are in or around (124,126) the dimples.
