Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a supporting arm which has a simple, firm, and light weight structure and can supply high electric power in spite of easy maintenance.
CONSTITUTION: In an arc furnace constituted as a hollow formed member constituted of walls at least partly made of a highly conductive material, channels 36 comprise cooling medium systems 40 to cool the walls 35 of the formed member 30 and are installed in parallel one another and concentrically to a carrier arm center axis. A proper number of the channels 36 with proper size to sufficiently carry out cooling without lowering the rigidity of the supporting arm are installed in the walls 35.
