Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make improvements in the torque transfer characteristic and durability of an electromagnetic friction clutch.
SOLUTION: A nitrogen diffused layer is adopted at the surface side of an iron base material consisting of applying a NITROTEC (R) process as an inner clutch plate 14a, a nitrogenous compound layer at the surface side of this nitrogen diffused layer and a clutch plate of a multilayer structure with an oxide film at the surface side of this nitrogenous compound layer, respectively. With a synergistic effect of its anticorrosiveness, wear resistance and fatigue resistance, the promotion of mirror finishedness on each frictional engaging surface of both clutch plates 14a and 14b is checked, and thus any drop in a torque transfer characteristic is prevented from occurring.
