Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compounds useful as a raw material for resins.
SOLUTION: This compounds are represented by formula I {X is an alkylidene group represented by the formula R1CR2 (R1 and R2 are each H or a 1-6C alkyl) or a cycloalkylidene group represented by formula II [(n) is 4-11]}, e.g. 1,1-bis(3-cyclohexyl-4-hydroxycyclohexyl) cyclohexane. The compounds represented by formula I are obtained by hydrogenating (nuclearly hydrogenating) aromatic nuclei (benzene rings) of (A) phenyl-substituted or cyclohexyl- substituted bisphenols into cyclohexane rings in the presence of (B) a hydrogenating metal catalyst (e.g. rhodium/carbon catalyst) preferably at 0-350°C under atmospheric pressure to 300 kg cm2G. In the above reaction, the component B is used in an amount of preferably 0.1-100 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. component A. The resultant compound has ≤4 cyclohexane rings and is useful for improving physical properties of a raw material, etc., for resins.
