Abstract:

To provide an electron emission element reducing the occurrence of dielectric breakdown, enabling low-cost manufacturing, and allowing stable electron emission with a good amount.

An electron emission element 1 includes an electron acceleration layer 4 made up of a layer of particulates, between an electrode substrate 2 and a thin film electrode 3. When a voltage is applied between the electrode substrate 2 and the thin film electrode 3, an electron is accelerated in the electron acceleration layer 4 and emitted from the thin film electrode 3. Here, the electron acceleration layer 4 includes insulator particulates 5 as a particulate and does not include a conductive particulate, and wax exists between the insulator particulate 5.
