To provide an electronic camera equipped with EVF display which is easy to focus on in the case that a user manually focuses the camera, while viewing the EVF display.

In the electronic camera which photographs a subject by a CCD 23 to record an image in a recording medium 31 and which is capable of manual focusing at the time of photographing, the output from the CCD 23 is displayed as a through image by a liquid crystal panel 38 for EVF constituting an electronic view finder to be peeped through, and an image pickup circuit 24 and a focus area expansion processing part 35 in an image processing part 34 for EVF are controlled by an MF display control part 42 in a system controller 40 at manual focusing, to increase the display sensitivity of the through image on the electronic view finder, and the processing is performed which enlarges and displays a part corresponding to the focus area in the display area of the electronic view finder.
