PURPOSE: To uniformly shorten a distance between a sucking position of a component supply unit and a mounting position of a component on a circuit board even if the component is sucked at any position of the unit and to mount it at a high speed by moving holding means for holding the board along the unit.
CONSTITUTION: A circuit board 11 is introduced via introduction rails 12a, and fixedly held at a predetermined position on a holding table 17. A mounting head 14 is moved to a position of component supply means 13a which places a desired electronic component of a component supply unit 13 by an X-Y robot 16, a suction nozzle 15 is moved down to suck the component. The head 14 is operated to fetch an optical image of the component by a recognition camera 20, to measure a position of the component, to correct a positional error and to the mount the component on the board 1 held on the table 17. In this case, the table 17 is so moved by an X-axis driver 18 and a Y-axis driver 19 that a distance between a component sucking position and a mounting position of the component on the board 11 becomes shortest.
