Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophoretic display in which good display contrast is obtained by movement of migration particles onto display electrodes of a movement destination without remaining on the display electrodes of a moving source.
SOLUTION: In this electrophoretic display device, the first display electrode 3 and the second display electrode 4 are arranged on a first substrate 1 and a second substrate 2 opposite thereto is arranged across partitions 9. The device has auxiliary display electrodes (projecting parts) 5 and 6 which are projecting structures on the first display electrode 3 and the second display electrode 4 along the lines of the segments where the absolute value of the horizontal component of the electric fields generated on the first display electrode 3 and the second display electrode 4 attain the minimal value. A transparent insulative liquid 7 is packed in the space formed by the first substrate 1, the second substrate 2 and the partitions 9 and the colored and electrified migration particles 8 are dispersed in the insulative liquid.
