To provide an electrophotographic photoreceptor the sensitivity of which is hardly changed even at a low temperature and low humidity and which can obtain excellent image properties even if used repeatedly, and to provide an image forming apparatus including the electrophotographic photoreceptor.
The electrophotographic photoreceptor includes an intermediate layer between an electroconductive support and a photosensitive layer. The intermediate layer contains a metal oxide fine particle the surface of which is treated with at least an anhydrous silicon dioxide, and a binder resin. The binder resin includes a polyamide resin obtained by subjecting at least a piperazine compound and an aliphatic di- or tri-carboxylic acid compound, a lower alkyl ester thereof or a mixture of the aliphatic di- or tri-carboxylic acid compound with the lower alkyl ester thereof to a condensation reaction.
