An elevator bank 1 for lower stories and an elevator bank 2 for the higher stories are placed parallel to each other along a common corridor 7. and the elevator lobbies 5, 6 of the stories are connected to the common corridor 7 via a passage 8 in a space between the elevator banks. Spaces 10 which form on the lower stories between the two elevator shafts of the elevator bank for the higher stories are connected to the atrium of the elevator bank for the higher stories, which atrium is adjacent to the opposite side to the elevator bank for the lower stories. The space between the two elevator shafts 4 of the elevator bank 2 for the higher story is used as a part of a floor face. Thereby a capacity-to-floor efficiency is enhanced to enhance space efficiency, as by increasing the area of office rooms. Also, the identify of each floor is enhanced as the view of the atrium from the lower stories is different from the view of the atrium from the higher stories.
