To provide an elevator safety appliance which inhibits increase of a hoistway plane dimension of an elevator, reduces the component costs, and shortens the installation work time.
An elevator safety appliance is installed at an elevator and inhibits a worker who conducts maintenance and inspection from intruding into a lower area of a balancing weight (3). The elevator safety appliance includes an intrusion inhibition body (6) composed of multiple intrusion inhibition body components. The multiple intrusion inhibition body components have a structure that may be attached to or detached from a weight rail (5) and are attached to the weight rail being arranged in a height direction of a hoistway during the maintenance and inspection. After the maintenance and inspection are finished, some of the multiple intrusion inhibition body components, which are in positions that cause interference with a car (2), are removed.
