To provide an enclosed type electric compressor for household-use refrigerator with high efficiency and low noise performance by improving the intake efficiency of noise elimination effect of an a suction muffler.
A suction muffler 17 is composed of two chambers 22, 23, a tail pipe 20, a communication pipe 24, and a suction pipe 25. The pipes 20, 24, 25 are arranged on a same plane with opposite openings inclined to be formed into a letter U shape. The section of inlet 21 of the tail pipe 20 is formed into a flared shape larger than the section of a suction pipe 18. With the constitution, suction of refrigerant to the maffler 17 is made smooth, pressure wave is attenuated at two stages to thereby reduce the flow resistance of refrigerant, resulting in improvement in the noise elimination characteristic and suction efficiency of the muffler 17.
