Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent exhaustion of oil while ensuring a brake function during operation of an internal combustion engine with a reduced number of cylinders.
SOLUTION: Supply of fuel into #1 cylinder and #4 cylinder is cut off when a condition of operation with a reduced cylinder number is satisfied (S1 to S2), an intake-air shut-off valve for the #1 and #4 cylinders is closed if a depression at an intake-air engine manifold Pb downstream of the intake-off valve is less than a lower limit value (S3 to S4), the operation of the exhaust valve is stopped (S3 to S5) when Pb becomes less than the lower limit value as with the result thereof, and further, the intake-air shut-off valve is opened when it exceeds an upper limit value (S6 to S7). Accordingly, the depression at engine manifold Pb can be maintained in the range between the upper and lower limit values, thereby it is possible to prevent exhaustion of oil while ensuring a brake function with the use of the depression at engine manifold.
