Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine unit and a saddle riding type vehicle capable of suppressing an increase in the size of an integrated starter generator and improving the generation efficiency of the integrated starter generator.SOLUTION: An engine unit 10 comprises: an engine 200; an ISG (integrated starter generator) 300; and an auxiliary motor 400. The ISG 300 rotates a crankshaft 210 in a reverse direction and then rotates the crankshaft 210 in a normal direction at a time of starting the engine 200. The auxiliary motor 400 is connected to the crankshaft 210 via a speed reducer 450 and a clutch mechanism 500, and rotates the crankshaft 210 at least in the reverse direction at the time of starting the engine 200. The clutch mechanism 500 can be switched over between a state in which a turning force of the auxiliary motor 400 is transmitted to the crankshaft 210 and a state in which the turning force is not transmitted to the crankshaft 210 whether in the normal direction or in the reverse direction.
