Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain an error correction decoder which corrects a burst error and a random error and implements error correction decoding in response to a state of the error while mis-correction is not produced.
CONSTITUTION: The decoder is provided with a 1st decoding means decoding a product code in a 1st direction, a 1st storage means storing a consecutive error flag when a consecutive error of a 1st setting value or over is in the result of decoding, a 2nd storage means storing an error detection location of the result of the 1st decoding, a counter storing number of code words whose error correction is disable in the 1st decoding, a comparator means comparing whether or not the number of code words whose error correction in the 1st direction is disable is between a 2nd setting value and a 3rd setting value, and a 2nd decoding means which decodes the product code in a 2nd direction based on the result of 1st decoding, uses the 2nd storage means error detection position to make missing and error correction when the number of code words whose error correction is disable by the comparator means is between the 2nd setting value and the 3rd setting value and when a consecutive error flag is in existence and implements error correction only when no consecutive error flag is in existence.
