To provide an evaporative cooler that is capable of reducing gas circulating means in size and of circulating only a required amount of a gas in a first cooling flow path and a second cooling flow path.
An evaporative cooler 1 comprises: a first cooling flow path 10 for circulating air and cooling the air by using evaporation heat of water; a second cooling flow path 20 in which a gas can be circulated for cooling by using cold energy generated by the evaporation heat in the first cooling flow path; and gas circulating means for circulating the gas in the first cooling flow path and the second cooling flow path. The first cooling flow path and the second cooling flow path are arranged so that one or more of each flow path are overlapped alternately in a vertical direction relative to a gas flow direction (a forward and backward direction). The gas flow means uses a traveling wave pump 30.
