Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enlarge a sound absorbing volume and reduce a size of a muffler cylinder itself by connecting a tapered pipe whose rear end is widened to an exhaust collection pipe to which rear ends of a plurality of exhaust pipes are also connected while forming an exhaust expansion chamber, and connecting a rear end of the tapered pipe to the muffler cylinder. CONSTITUTION:Four exhaust pipes are respectively connected to exhaust ports of cylinders of a four-cylinder engine. Rear ends of the exhaust pipes are respectively inserted into and connected to an exhaust collection pipe 2. A tapered pipe 3 whose rear portion is gradually widened is welded to the exhaust collection pipe 2. An inner pipe 4 is inserted through the tapered pipe 3, while the inner portion of the inner pipe 4 serves as an exhaust expansion chamber 5 and the outside of the inner pipe 4 serves as an exhaust interference chamber 6. The rear end of the tapered pipe 3 is welded to the front end of a muffler cylinder 8 so as to coincide its diameter to that of the muffler cylinder 8 through a short communication cylinder 7. Two muffler chambers 9, which are communicated with each other through a buffle pipe 10, are formed longitudinally inside the muffler cylinder 8.
