Abstract:

PURPOSE: To always reduce the discharge volume of HC by controlling a branching ratio of exhaust gas into an adsorptive catalyst in accordance with a degree of deterioration of the adsorptive catalyst so as to control the temperature rising rate of the adsorptive catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: When the deterioration of an adsorptive catalyst is advanced, deterioration degree determining means determines the degree of deterioration, and temperature rising rate computing means determined a temperature rising rate of the catalyst in accordance with the degree of deterioration. At this time, the temperature rising rate of the catalyst is determined to be lower as the degree of deterioration of the catalyst is higher. Further, the temperature rise of the catalyst 5 is monitored while the inlet and outlet temperatures of the catalyst 5 are detected by inlet and outlet temperature detecting means 10, 11. Further, temperature rising rate control means feed-back controls the drive of branching ratio control means so as to obtain a determined temperature rising rate. As a result, the temperature rising rate of the catalyst is controlled to be smaller as the degree of deterioration is larger. Thus, a control unit 13 restrain abrupt separation of HC, and it is possible to prevent an inferior purification in an exhaust purifying catalyst 3.
