To provide an exhaust emission control system for an internal combustion engine, comprising particulate filters in exhaust passages for trapping PMs, wherein the trapped PMs are efficiently oxidized and removed.
The exhaust emission control system for the internal combustion engine comprises the first and second particulate filters 17, 18 provided in the exhaust passages 11, 12 of the internal combustion engine 1 for trapping particulate materials in exhaust gas. The exhaust flow-out face of the first particulate filter 17 and the exhaust flow-out face of the second particulate filter 18 are joined to each other in the opposed condition via a connection passage 19 so that exhaust gas flows from the connection passage to an exhaust passage 13 on the downstream side.
