Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent the further accumulation of particulates in a trap by stopping the fuel feed to the trap, and opening a bypass valve in a bypass passage detouring the trap when the exhaust temperature is lower than the preset temperature range during the regeneration of the trap. CONSTITUTION:An oxidizing catalyst 51 inserted in series on an exhaust passage 50 and a particulate capturing trap 52 located at its downstream are provided, a bypass passage 53 detouring the trap 52 to feed exhaust gas is provided, and a bypass valve 54 is provided on the bypass passage 53. A means 55 feeding fuel during the regeneration of the trap 52 is provided at the upstream side of the oxidizing catalyst 51, and a means 56 detecting the exhaust temperature of the trap upstream is provided. The bypass valve 54 is closed and fuel is fed by the control of a regeneration control means 57 when the exhaust temperature detected during regeneration is in the preset temperature range lower than the trap regeneration temperature, fuel feed is stopped and the bypass valve 54 is closed when the temperature is above the preset range, and fuel feed is stopped and the bypass valve 54 is opened when the temperature is below the preset range.
