Abstract:
To provide an exhaust emission control device of an internal combustion engine, in which reduction control is terminated at proper timing being based on completion of a reduction action of NOx, and which therefore fully exerts the clarification performance of exhaust gas.SOLUTION: An exhaust emission control device 1 comprises a NOx occlusion reduction type NOx catalyst 7 having an oxygen storage capacity. Reduction control for controlling an exhaust gas to a reduction atmosphere is performed (strep 9), and when a second air excess rate λ2 indicating a downstream-side exhaust gas air-fuel ratio of the NOx catalyst 7 is inverted to a rich side with respect to a first air excess rate λ1 during the execution of the reduction control (step 26: YES), an extension time TREFE is set according to an air-fuel ratio influence parameter (exhaust gas flow rate QEX, catalyst temperature TNSC) exerting an influence to a change state of the downstream-side exhaust gas air-fuel ratio of the NOx catalyst 7 (step 27). When the extension time TREFE elapses from inversion timing to the rich side of the second air excess rate λ2, it is determined that the reduction control should be finished (steps 30, 31, 34).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
