Abstract:

To provide an exhaust gas purifying catalyst which is capable of exhibiting more excellent gas purification performance while reducing the amount used of a noble metal.

In an exhaust gas purifying catalyst, palladium and copper and/or an alloy of palladium and copper are carried on a heat resistant oxide, the content of copper is adjusted to be larger than the content of palladium and the ratio of the palladium content is set to 0.2 mass% or less with respect to the total amount of the heat resistant oxide, palladium and copper. The exhaust gas purifying catalyst can decrease the cost by reducing the amount used of a noble metal and can efficiently purify an exhaust gas, especially CO and NOx.
