Abstract:

To unclog an EGR passage in clogging while avoiding deterioration of response in EGR supply.

An exhaust gas recirculation system includes an EGR passage, an EGR valve to control the flowing condition of an exhaust gas in the EGR passage, and a clog sensing means to sense clogging of the EGR passage. The system further includes a control part to perform opening/closing control of the EGR valve when clogging in the exhaust gas recirculation system or EGR passage is sensed. Performing this opening/closing control of the EGR valve causes a turbulent flow to be generated in the exhaust gas in the EGR passage, which removes soot and/or PM deposited in an EGR cooler or on a filter installed in the EGR passage.
