To provide an exhaust gas treatment device which is capable of adequately getting rid of white smoke.
The device comprises auxiliary agent supply means, such as a quantitative feeder 16. By the auxiliary agent supply means, a powdery auxiliary agent for removal of the white smoke is supplied from the upstream side of a dust collector 13 into the dust collector, thereby depositing the auxiliary agent on a surface of a filter of the dust collector. For the auxiliary agent, any one kind or any mixture of a plurality of kinds selected from inorganic powdery substances, such as diatom earth, perlite or the like, and powdery adsorbents, such as activated carbon, zeolite, coke, or the like, is used. When the white smoke is detected by white smoke measuring means, the supply of the auxiliary agent is started, and when the white smoke is no longer detected by the white smoke measuring means, the supply of the auxiliary agent is stopped. Also, the auxiliary agent that has once been supplied is returned, by recycle means, to the auxiliary agent supply means to be reused. Furthermore, at the time of the supply of the auxiliary agent by the auxiliary agent supply means, cooling fluid is also supplied, by cooling fluid supply means, to the upstream side of the dust collector, thereby lowering temperature of exhaust gas flowing into the dust collector.
