Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:Exo-5-halomethyl-endo-2,3-trimethylene norbornane of formula I (X is Cl, Br or I).
EXAMPLE: Exo-5-chloromethyl-endo-2,3-trimethylene norbornane.
USE: Raw material of perfumery or its intermediate. The bromide is useful for the synthesis of a raw material of methyladamantane, and the iodide is for the synthesis of an antiviral agent.
PROCESS: The compound I wherein X is Cl or Br, is prepared by reacting exo-5- hydroxymethyl-endo-2,3-trimethylene norbornane of formula II with phosphorus trichloride, phosphorus tribromide, etc.; and the compound I wherein X is I can be prepared by the uncleophilic substitution reaction of the compound III with an alkali metal iodide.
