Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controlling method and controlling device for a hard sail of a hard sail ship in which the extendable hard sail is prevented from damage while sailing.SOLUTION: A controlling device comprises: a bending moment detector 31 measuring actual bending moment acting on a must M of an extendable hard sail ES; a controller 20 comparing the detected value by the bending moment detector 31 with a threshold and, when the detected value is over the threshold, transmitting control signal with which the height of the extendable hard sail ES is reduced or the extendable hard sail ES is rotated so as to be in parallel with wind; driving mechanisms 11, 12 shortening or rotating the hard sail based on the control signal from the controller 20. In a case where a large actual wind load is burdened, such as a case of strong wind, the extendable must M is shortened or rotated for releasing wind to reducing the wind load, resulting in prevention damage on the extendable hard sail ES.
