To realize an expansion joint having a structure in which relative displacements in each direction can be absorbed with a simple structure.
In the expansion joint having a structure in which a moving plate 2 is installed so as to straddle relatively displacing two structures (buildings A and B), a groove 4 along the horizontal direction of the moving plate is formed to one structure, a pin 3 projected on the underside side of one end section of the moving plate is engaged with the groove, one end section of the moving plate is connected to one structure slidably in the horizontal direction and in a manner that one end section cannot be slid in the longitudinal direction to one structure while the other end section of the moving plate is supported slidably in all directions to the other structure and slits 8a and 8b permitting a sliding in the horizontal direction of the moving plate are formed to the wall bodies (handrail walls 7a and 7b) positioned and mounted on the side of the moving plate. A restoring means (a restoring spring 5) returning the moving plate at a fixed place by urging the pin in the horizontal direction is fitted into the groove.
