To separate efficiently platinum and palladium by a method wherein, in the case where platinum and palladium are extracted by separation by a method of selectively extracting platinum from an aqueous phase into an organic phase, a compound Ar2P(O)(CH2)nNR2 is used as an extractant in an organic solvent.
In the case in which platinum and palladium are extracted from a hydrochloric acid solution into an organic phase containing an extractant solution in an organic solvent, a phosphorus-containing amine Ar2P(O)(CH2)nNR compound is used as an extractant for platinum metal. In the formula, Ar is phnyl or a substituted phenyl, R is an alkyl or a cycloalkyl, and (n) is 1 or 3. In order to obtain a compound of this group, a synthesizing method based on the reaction of a diaryl phosphynyl alkylbromide ArP(O)(CH2)nBr with a secondary amine is used. Further, as the extractant, an ArP2(O)(CH2)nNR2 compound solution of 0.01 M in dichloroethane is preferably used.
