To make it possible, in a device including a serial communication path and one or more circuits, to detect a failure in the circuits and serial communication path while performing data communication by using the serial communication path.SOLUTION: A failure detection device has: one or more modules that include a sensor data circuit that outputs sensor data and a lock step circuit that outputs data for detecting a failure in the sensor data circuit, and are connected with a serial communication path; a data collection unit that collects the sensor data and the data for failure detection through the serial communication path; and a data comparison unit that outputs a comparison result indicating whether the sensor data and the data for failure detection match each other.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
