Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a fiber reinforced metallic composite material having excellent specific strength, specific rigidity and heat resistance, high strength and high wear resistance by incorporating specified inorg. fibers as a reinforcing material into an Al alloy having a specified compsn.

CONSTITUTION: Continuous inorg. fibers are made of an amorphous substance consisting of Si, M (Ti or Zr), C and O, practically β-SiC, MC, solid soln. of β-SiC or MC or an aggregate consisting of crystalline hyperfine particles of MC1-x (0(x<1) having <500 A particle diameter and amorphous SiOy and MO2 (0<y≤2 and 0<z≤2). The inorg. fibers as a reinforcing material are incorporated into a high strength heat resistant Al alloy having a compsn. represented by a general formula AlaPbQc as a matrix to obtain a fiber reinforced lightweight high strength metallic composite material. The Al alloy is an amorphous body or an amorphous-microcrystalline combined body.(In the formula, P is at least one among Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo and W, Q is at lest one among Fe, Ni, Co, Cu and Zn, 10≤a≤999.8 atomic %, 0.1≤b≤80 atomic % and 0.1≤c≤55 atomic %.)
